Tell me about yourself and The Fashion Guru
My name is Chanél and I'm the blogger, editor, and writer of The Fashion Guru blog. (Yes, I was named after the Chanel perfumes.) I created the blog because of my love of writing and fashion. I've loved fashion ever since I was a little girl. (Thanks to my fashionable mom, who got me into it.) But I've been writing ever since I was 7 years old. I wanted to get into fashion, but I knew fashion design wasn't a promising career and that I didn't like to sew. So I merged my two loves together and created this blog. The Fashion Guru became sort of an "alias" for me. I wanted to be less about me, and more about what I had to say.
The Fashion Guru is a blog that not only gives you the latest beauty and fashion news but gives you ideas on how to get the hottest trends for less. I will search around the net and find you those pieces myself. I will take the time to show a variety of outfits for each body type, age, and gender. It's like having your own personal stylist on your computer. I also have broaden the spectrum of my blog by providing more articles that I write myself. And I have weekly articles such as "Steal of the Week", "The Top 10", "Style Icon" and "Hot or Not". I also have once in a lifetime articles such as "Fashion Spotlight", "I Spy", and "Ask the Guru". It's become more of a daily fashion magazine that you can read for free!
Who is The Fashion Guru's audience?
The Fashion Guru's audience is now catered to anyone...In the beginning, it was about the true fashionistas who are into "haute couture" and could name every designer off the top of their head. Then I catered to young women who like to be trendy, but are on a budget. Now I've been giving ideas for older women who as well. I have also featured fashion from the underground, indie scene. My personal style is so varied that I can probably talk about anything. I even wrote some articles on men's clothing!
What can readers expect as far as content, is there something for everyone in your blog?
With all the articles that I have, I make sure that I bring as much variety to the table as possible. One week could be catered to teenagers, and the next week it could be all about the older women. Or it could change from day to day...I even make sure that the looks I show are versatile and look good on everyone. I like having everyone's opinions and input as well. That's important to me. I want to know what my readers want.
How long have you been working on this blog?
Since November 2008. I actually started on this little online diary site just for fun. But when that site started to have problems, I decided to open a blog. And now here I am!
Who's your favorite Fashion Designer?
I'm going to be bias and say Coco Chanel. She's a classic and my idol. If she was alive, she would still be in style.
How would you describe your personal style of fashion?
I can be very into the trends, but I don't want to wear them all at once. I love wearing skinny jeans or colored jeans with a tee shirt and a scarf. But I also love tailored, classic pieces. I can either be "rock and roll" or chic and classy. It all depends on my mood.
What fashion trends make you cringe?
This is funny because I've posted a top 10 list on the worst trends a while ago. I'd have to say crocs, lace-up gladiator sandals, cocktail rings, fur coats, and high waisted belts. I'm so sick of seeing them, I think they're tacky. Are crocs even a trend?
What can we expect from The Fashion Guru in the future?
I can only think of the past accomplishments I've made. I've met and interviewed so many amazing designers. I just hope to reach more readers out there. I think my Twitter page is helping me out. I just want to write more of my own articles and I hope that the "Ask the Guru" feature takes off soon. I want my readers' input as well. It's going to become of an opinionated fashion blog. Everyone's opinion is allowed! That's what makes TFG stand out from other fashion blogs, I think. I've changed the "face" of my blog so many times that who knows what could happen next!
Thank you so much Chanél ! Check out The Fashion Guru for all things beauty and Fashion.
